Artist's statement

Weiqi Sun

My practice explores the harm and impact of the modern environmental crisis on the post-human era. Environments ranging from cities to seascapes are created via a range of 3D animations utilising digital technologies. Contrasting different materials utilised from 3D softwares are employed to construct my digital imagined worlds. Creating virtual yet seemingly real spaces triggers audiences to reflect on the nature of perceived reality.

Recent work analyses the occurrence of glacier collapse and melting in Chile demonstrating the potential environmental and climatic consequences of contemporary technology, ultimately leading to complete ecological crisis. I also hypothesise about the entropy increase and entropy decrease that is closely related to "heat".

Furthermore, my works reflect infinite loops of growth and destruction, simulating my desire for time and reality to shift going backwards, jumping and repeating in endless disconcerting cycles.
